THEO RADIO LAUNCHED

THEO RADIO – A Three Years old experimental Campus Radio of Mar Theophilus Training College, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram, was officially launched on 24th October 2011 in a colourful function held at the college. The launching was jointly officiated by lighting the traditional Kerala lamp by Radio Mirchi fame R.J. Mr. Gokul and Sri. A. Prabhakaran, the Director of IGNOU-Gyanvani FM Radio, Thiruvnanthapuram.  The Student-Teacher led THOE RADIO may be an innovative practice of its kind at a Teacher Education college in the country. The three year piloting of the experiment generated much enthusiasm, flexibility and energy in the academic atmosphere of the college.  The daily ten minutes long broadcasting of the radio was an occasion for a real experience of modern educational concepts of edutainment and infotainment o the college community as a whole. The media club of the college was the official platform which shouldered the task venturing into the realization of a novel concept of this kind and nature. The open house on convergence of education and media was led by Sri. A. Prabhakaran. Principal of the college Dr. A. Mercykuty, College Union Chairman and Media club President Binish K., Programme Officer Dr. K. Y. Benedict, Media Club Secretary Jeena Venugopal and College Union General Secretary Soorya Thengamam spoke on the occasion. Following the inaugural ceremony a festival of short films directed and produced by Student-Teachers of the Trivandrum City Colleges of Teacher Education was also held. The THEO RADIO is expected to be a full-fledged Educational FM Station during the period of 12^th five Year Plan.

NOMINATIONS INVITED FOR CTE. TEACHER EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD 2011

Nominations from member Teacher Educators of CTE, Kerala State Centre are invited for the Dr. K. Soman Memorial Teacher Educator Award of the Year 2011. The award carries a Citation and Certificate besides prize money. The prescribed form can be downloaded from the website page   www.ctekerala.org/downloads. Filled in forms with supporting documents are to be mailed to Dr. G. Valsala, Secretary, CTE, B.N.V. College of Teacher Education, Thiruvallam-PO, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala; on or before 15^th of December 2012. The award will be distributed at the International Education Meet in January 2012. The first Curtain raiser programme at Gyan Vani FM Radio (IGNOU) - the Official Radio Partner of IEME4GE 2012 will be aired on 20/11/2011, Sunday, 7 am. Tune into 105.6MHz to listen to the same.

Bon Voyage Dr. K. Y. Benedict

Dr. K. Y. Benedict, General Secretary, CTE Kerala (Associate Professor, Mar Theophilus Training College, Thiruvananthapuram) is participating in the fourth Annual Edition of ICERI2011 (4th International Conference of Education, Research and Innovation) held in Madrid (Spain) on the 14th, 15th and 16th of November, 2011.

ICERI2011 is an International Forum for the presentation of projects and innovations, and having the opportunity to discuss the main aspects and the latest results in the field of Education and Research. ICERI2011 is organized by the International Association of Technology, Education and Development (IATED), Spain

Dr. K. Y. Benedict is presenting a paper and a poster there. He is also chairing a session in the prestigious event.

CTE and the Executive Committee of IEME4GE 2012 wishes him an enjoyable and fruitful experience in Spain.

Awards Instituted by CTE Kerala in 2011

K. M. Jacob & Mary Jacob Ever Rolling Trophy for Student - Teachers

First Rank Holder of B.Ed. Course, University of Kerala, will be honoured with K.M. Jacob & Mary Jacob Memorial Ever Rolling Trophy  sponsored by Prof. K. Jacob Mathew, Former Member Syndicate, University of Kerala; and Former Principal, Govt. College of Teacher Education, as a tribute to his beloved parents. The Ever-Rolling Trophy will be given to the institution where the Rank Holder has studied and the Student- Teacher will be presented with a memento and certificate. The first award will be given to the student(s) who score the first rank for B.Ed. course – Kerala University in the academic year 2010-’11.

Dr. P. K. Sudheesh Kumar Memorial award for Best paper on ‘Innovations/ Advancements in Education’

‘Award for Best paper on ‘Innovations/ Advancements in Education’ is instituted by CTE Kerala in memorial of Dr.P.K. Sudheesh Kumar who was Reader in the Department of Education, University of Calicut, Kerala. This award, sponsored by Dr. C. M. Bindhu, (w/o Late Dr. P. K. Sudheesh Kumar) Associate Professor, Farook Training College, Calicut intends to motivate teacher educators and to foster creativity and sense of innovative spirit among them. The award consists of a Cash of Rs. 1000/-, memento and a certificate.

This award is open to all the participants who present paper in the Annual Conventions/ Conferences organized by CTE Kerala. The awardee is selected from among the papers accepted for presentation in CTE conference/ convention on the basis of criteria developed by CTE.

Dr. P. K. Sudheesh Kumar was the Reader in the Department of Education, University of Calicut, Kerala. As a dedicated teacher and researcher in education and psychology, he had 16 years of teaching and research experience in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and he had produced 6 Ph.D works. Being a double Ph.D. holder, both in Education and Psychology, he had substantial amount of research outputs. He was the recipient of two National Awards.  He had authored several books. A few among them are ‘Instructional Learning Strategies and Cognitive Entry Behaviour: An Experimental Analysis’, ‘Jigsaw Process in Education’, ‘How Pupils Learn? - Theory Research and Practice’, ‘Social Studies in the Classroom- Trends & Methods’ and ‘Psychology in the Classroom - Theories into Practice’.

Official Radio Partner - Gyan Vani FM 105.6MHz (IGNOU)

Gyan Vani FM Radio - 105.6MHz FM Radio Channel of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has agreed to be the Official Radio Partner of the IEME4GE 2012.

A per week half an hour curtain-raiser discussion will begin in IGNOU Gyanvani FM radio from the Second Week of November on the Main and Sub-themes of IEME4GE 2012. Tune to Gyanvani at 105.6 MHz.

Sri. A. Prabhakaran, Director, Gyanvani FM Radio has assured Gyan Vani's full-fledged support for broadcasting Educational Praogrammes related to IEME4GE 2012.

Exhibition Pavilion at IEME4GE 2012

Exhibition Cabins are available at the venue of IEME4GE2012. Educational Institutions, Firms, Industrial Units or Organisations can make use of his opportunity to showcase and promote their concepts, products and services. Mar Ivanios Vidya Nagar, Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapuram, where the conference venue is located, is a conglomeration of a large number of educational institutions spread in an area of more than 300 Acres of land; large viewership is expected in the exhibition pavilion. Nominal fees will be levied from the agencies who wish to exhibit their items Corporate Firms or items for sale: Rs. 5000/- per cabin (3mX3m) and Rs.1000/- per cabin for non-profit making groups. All institutional members of C T E and other collaborating agencies of IEME4GE2012 across the country and beyond can place copies of their publications (free of cost) in the exhibition.

Proposals for the First Dr. N. D. Joshi Memorial Rolling Trophy from Institutional Members of CTE are Invited

Greetings from the office of the Council for Teacher Education (CTE), Kerala State Centre at M. T. T. College Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapurm-15, Kerala. 'Dr. N. D. Joshi Memorial Rolling Trophy' instituted this year (2011) is to be awarded to Teacher Education Institutions (Institutional Life Members of CTE Kerala) for their involvement and support to the programmes of CTE to strengthen the cause of Teacher Education in the state of Kerala. This Rolling Trophy is instituted to commemorate the academic contributions of Dr. N. D. Joshi, Former Faculty Member, Department of Education, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and Former Visiting Faculty, School of Pedagogical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and a pioneer in the field of Tribal Education. This Rolling Trophy is sponsored by the Doctoral Research students of Dr. Joshi. Institutions enrolling as life members of CTE up to 05^th December 2011 can participate in the selection process. The institution is identified by a State level panel of eminent educational experts and administers. The award will be launched and the maiden award will be distributed at the 10th Annual Convention of CTE scheduled from 5th-7^th of January, 2012 at M.T.T.C, Thiruvananthapuram as part of the International Education Meet.

The institutional member colleges are earnestly requested to forward two copies of proposal (on or before 15.12.2011) highlighting the achievements of the institution in the last three academic years on areas like: Academic, Co-curricular, Research and Extension, Student Support, Innovative Healthy Practices, Governance and Administration and Collaboration with CTE. Each criterion is to be supported with evidence of results/outcome. (Size of the report is to be limited within 10 pages in A4 size paper, heading(s) 14/12 points and text 10 points with 1.15 spacing between lines).
