Proposals for the First Dr. N. D. Joshi Memorial Rolling Trophy from Institutional Members of CTE are Invited


Greetings from the office of the Council for Teacher Education (CTE), Kerala State Centre at M. T. T. College Nalanchira, Thiruvananthapurm-15, Kerala. 'Dr. N. D. Joshi Memorial Rolling Trophy' instituted this year (2011) is to be awarded to Teacher Education Institutions (Institutional Life Members of CTE Kerala) for their involvement and support to the programmes of CTE to strengthen the cause of Teacher Education in the state of Kerala. This Rolling Trophy is instituted to commemorate the academic contributions of Dr. N. D. Joshi, Former Faculty Member, Department of Education, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram and Former Visiting Faculty, School of Pedagogical Sciences, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and a pioneer in the field of Tribal Education. This Rolling Trophy is sponsored by the Doctoral Research students of Dr. Joshi. Institutions enrolling as life members of CTE up to 05th December 2011 can participate in the selection process. The institution is identified by a State level panel of eminent educational experts and administers. The award will be launched and the maiden award will be distributed at the 10th Annual Convention of CTE scheduled from 5th-7th of January, 2012 at M.T.T.C, Thiruvananthapuram as part of the International Education Meet.
The institutional member colleges are earnestly requested to forward two copies of proposal (on or before 15.12.2011) highlighting the achievements of the institution in the last three academic years on areas like: Academic, Co-curricular, Research and Extension, Student Support, Innovative Healthy Practices, Governance and Administration and Collaboration with CTE. Each criterion is to be supported with evidence of results/outcome. (Size of the report is to be limited within 10 pages in A4 size paper, heading(s) 14/12 points and text 10 points with 1.15 spacing between lines).

Awards Constituted by CTE, Kerala



Dr. K. Sivadasan Pillai Memorial Award for Academic Excellence

CTE Kerala State Centre has instituted the Dr. K. Sivadasan Pillai Memorial Award for Academic Excellence to honour the pioneers of Education in the country for their outstanding achievement in the field of Teacher Education as well as in the public domain. This award is instituted in the name of the great educationalist Dr. K. Sivadasan Pillai, who was the founder Chairman of CTE in the state and the pioneer of various Academic activities in the country and abroad. This Award constituted in 2008, after the sad demise of Dr. Pillai, consists of a cash award of Rs.10,001/- and a Citation.
The former recipients of the award are
1) Dr. N. Vedamani Manuel, Former Professor and Head, Department of Education; Dean, Faculty of Education, University of Kerala, and UNESCO expert (2008)
2) Dr. A. Sukumaran Nair, Former Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottyam; Professor and Head, Department of Education, Calicut University and Faculty Member, Department of Education, University of Kerala (2009)
3) Dr. K. Soman Former Professor and Head, Department of Education, Calicut University; and Former Commissioner of Education, Government of Kerala (2010)

Dr. Dev Raj Vij (Jalandhar, Punjab), National President, Council for Teacher Education (CTE) has been selected for 'Dr. K. Sivadasan Pillai Memorial Award for Academic Excellence - 2011', for his outstanding contributions to the field of Education for the last five decades.The Award will be presented at the 26th Annual National Convention cum International Education Meet from January 5th - 7th, 2012, hosted by CTE, Kerala State Centre at Mar Theophilus Training College, Thiruvananthapuram


Dr. K. Soman Memorial Award for Teacher Educator of the Year

The 'Best Teacher Educator Award' is constituted by the CTE, Kerala State Centre to motivate practicing teacher educators to be a model to students and society from 2004 onwards,  Later it was renamed as 'Award for Teacher Educator of the Year' in the year 2008. Now this Award is known as 'Dr. K. Soman Memorial Award for Teacher Educator of the Year' as a tribute to the great Educationist and pioneer of Teaching of Mathematics. The Award consists of a cash prize of Rs. 2000/- , Memento and Certificate. The amount for this award was sponsored by well-wishers. From 2010 onwards it is sponsored by Dr. Suresh, Kollam.

 Dr. N. Vedamani Memorial Award for Best Paper Presenter

In order to empower and motivate teacher educators, the Best Paper Presenter Award has been instituted by CTE, Kerala.  Dr. N. Vedamani Manual, then Patron of CTE, was the initiator of this attempt in 2006. As a tribute to the veteran educationist, Former Professor & Head, Department of Education, University of Kerala and Former UNESCO Expert, the award is named "Dr. N. Vedamani Manual Memorial Award for Best Paper Presenter'. It consist Rs.1000/-, Memento & Certificate.

Dr. N. D. Joshi Memorial Rolling Trophy

The institution is identified on the basis of the criteria developed by the CTE, Kerala State Centre. It will be launched at the 10th Annual Convention of CTE scheduled from 5th-7th, January, 2012.



Honouring of Doctoral Degree Awardees

In order to foster research aptitude among teacher educators (Life Members) the CTE, Kerala State Centre has initiated a programme to honour the Doctoral Degree Awardees among the Life Members of the state. This was started at the First State Convention of CTE (2001) held at Mar Theophilus Training College, Thiruvananthapuram. Mrs. Jesa, Mrs. T. V. Bindu and Mrs. Theresa Susan were the recipients. Dr. Gulab Chaurasia, National President, CTE, presented the mementoes and certificates to the awardees. Since then it is a regular event in the state convention.
