National Seminar on
Implementatio of Integration :The problems and challengesDecember 12-13, 2019,
Thursday
Dr. Rajan Varughese, Member Secretary, The Kerala State Higher Education Council
started
his speech with the note that he is indeed privileged to associate with Peet
Memorial Training College, Mavelikara as this College is a well-known seat of
learning in Southern part of Kerala. He is of the opinion that the social
groups like Christian missionaries, NSS and SNDP has made huge contributions to
education in general and higher education in particular. So Kerala’s
development can be seen as a social development. This social development is
reckoned with the growth of Human resources and education, especially with the
employment of youth. Human resource development should not be linked with per
capita income or the amount of goods produced in a nation, but with the number
of youth (18-20 years) getting enrolled for higher education. This is also
known as Gross enrollment in registration (GER).
Next session was by Dr.Biju K , who began his speech
with the reason for the implementation of 2 year B.Ed Course. Professor Jacob
Mathew , Rev. Dr. Sam T. Mathew,Peet Memorial Training ,Dr. Rosamma Philip
Principal,Mount Tabor Training College,
Professor Bobby Oommen Kurien and
Ms. Meriya Cheriyan were the other speakers of different session.
Meriya began her felicitation by emphasizing the fact
that the topic of the seminar is a truly significant in the present scenario.
She strongly believes that Seminar will be an answer to all the questions,
confusions that we harbor in our mind. She enlisted the numerous activities
organized by the current College Union Prayanam and promised all kinds of
support for the National Seminar.
Dr Biju K began his talk by pointing out that 1 year
B.Ed programme is not sufficient to equip student teachers to bring out the
best in them.
It reported that B.Tech holders are joining for B.Ed
course to teach in school. UGC, during the SWAYAM MOOCS (Study Webs of Active
Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) discussion stated that teachers nowadays
have very poor quality. There is lot of plagiarism even in the PhD thesis. We
need to focus on Outcome based education, if not the funding will stop. There
are benchmarks for productivity to attract funds. Education must be realigned
as we are talking about employability. Pedagogy is important but now we also
have Hudagogy ( self-teaching) and Knowledge based Curriculum. We should be
ready to welcome Paradigm shifts.
Dr. N. Ramakrishnan,HOD, Department of Educational
Technology ,Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, The speaker recollects his college days, when he joined for a
B.Ed. degree. Then there were no entrance. Meritorious students are shortlisted
for interview and they are given a chance to speak. If you speak loud and
clear, you will be selected for teacher training. Then was no 100% pass. But
now NCTE has made new regulations after which the pass % is 100. “I always
emphasis on the regular mode of study”, says the speaker. He is sad over the
irregular mode of B.Ed course prevalent in Northern parts of the country.
The speaker concludes his speech with lot of concerns.
Dr. Rengini K. R. proposed the Vote of
Thanks.
